Home Libraries: Keeping All of your Books in their Place!
Is your home office filled nearly from floor to ceiling with
your vast collections of books, accumulated throughout his years
as an aspiring academic? Everything ranging from obscure
encyclopedias to historical accounts of past president’s lives
clutters that room and spills into others, much to your family’s
dismay. Books line the walls, up to three feet high in places,
and make your narrow hallway even more narrow. Great works lay
smothered beneath mediocre fiction novels and when the dog
chases the cat, these piles often come tumbling down. If only
you could move the unattractive stacks and display your books as
they deserve -- in a custom library!
Today there are countless manufacturers that design beautiful
custom libraries for homes and can be found quite easily on the
internet. The website, www.custommade.com, has a listing of
individuals and companies the create custom libraries. Their
listings are from all over the country with a substantial amount
in the northeastern United States. The listings range from
individuals who construct libraries for you in their home
garages to larger companies that build libraries in addition to
other custom-made wood furniture. Another website,
www.librarydesigns.com, dedicates itself entirely to the
creation and construction of home libraries. From actual designs
for the libraries to furnishings designed specifically for home
libraries, this website provides the future library owner an
unlimited amount of information on libraries. As the website
states, “there is far more to a library than just a room with
books.” The site provides links to products for your library
including bars, carpets, ladders, and even swords. While this
site is oriented towards the use of libraries in their most
formal sense, libraries do not always have to serve as just
places to store books and certainly do not need to encompass
entire rooms.
Listed on the custommade.com website, Tony O’ Malley of Emmaus,
Pennsylvania showcases one of his designs for a custom library
that not only stores hundreds of books, but also transforms a
plain wall into one filled with much more interesting things.
Many people do not often desire to showcase just books, but
simply want to fill a blank wall of their home with some
beautiful, yet functional wood furniture. O’Malley’s design
certainly does this by incorporating the wall’s large window
into his design and providing storage space for the room.
Libraries can function as places to display more than simply
books, too. DeRosso Finishing Company, Inc. of SugarLoaf, New
York show their “Executive Library Suite” decorated with antique
vases, picture frames and a floral arrangement in addition to a
few books. Libraries can serve many functions within an
individual’s home.
Whether you desire a functional storage space to organize and
neaten your living space, or a work that will beautify your
blank wall, there is certainly a custom home library available
to you. They can be created to fit into just about any space.
They can range in prices, too, because each one is going to be
fairly unique.
Libraries are available to you for a wide range of prices.
LibraryDesigns states that you can build your own for less than
$700. There is no doubt, however, that prices can go up as high
as you would like! Custom libraries transform a plain room into
a beautiful place for displaying books and pictures and can
truly add to the beauty and value of your home.
